About Me

I am an experimental textile designer, artist, curator and academic.

I research apparel, materials, systems, and cultural practices in the context of environmental sustainability and circular economy.

My work celebrates the collaboration between materials, technology and craft. I am a believer in maintaining a fine balance between both in creating products for the future. I enjoy bringing innovation, appreciation for living material culture and sustainability to practice through my work. My work has been showcased in galleries, museums, design weeks, exhibitions and conferences in Australia, Dubai, Qatar, Russia, the U.K, & Iran.

I was an artist in residence at the Artist Residency Program at Qatar Museums between 2017 and 2018, where I researched the traditional Sadu weaving technique to tell stories through tapestries. I Co-Chaired Tasmeem Doha Art & Design Conference from 2018 to 19. I have also curated and designed exhibitions for VCUarts Qatar, University College London and Quranic Botanic Gardens in Qatar. I have served as a lecturer at the Pakistan Institute of Fashion & Design and have taught courses, workshops, and community classes at VCUarts Qatar.

I have received funding, grants, and scholarships from UTS Sydney, UNSW Sydney, VCUarts Qatar, Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), Qatar Foundation, University College London (UCL) and SLEM Netherlands. I have also won several industry sponsorships for patent research and developing environmentally friendly leather and textile iterations. I have material samples and works in the permanent collection of VCUarts Qatar materials library and Qatar Museums.

I am a sneakerhead, a believer in process, a traveller and a nature buff. You will find me experimenting with materials, visiting makers and museums, collecting textiles and memories around the world and discussing ideas over coffee.

I have an MPhil in Art, Design & Media from UNSW Sydney, MFA in Design from VCUarts Qatar and an MA in Museum and Gallery Practice from UCL London.

Currently, I am continuing my PhD research on circular economy systems to manufacture athleisure apparel using natural materials and craft-based practices at UTS in Australia.
